TOURING UPHILL SKIING WINTER

SNOW PACK ISSUES…

There is definitely a persistent weak layer to be wary of since the early snow at the ground level has become quite rotten. I hate to say it, but we likely need a significant weather event (rain… probably) to saturate down into that junk, or to create an ice bridge. Stay safe friends, and in the meantime shred the low angle, dial in the uphill fitness, check out some of the local events, and enjoy this post.

POWDER HOURS ARE BACK!

POWDER HOUR #1 is December 7th, 5:30pm at Saranac Commons. Conner from Ramble Raven will be discussing trends in touring equipment and offering tips on some uncommon essentials to bring with you.

POWDER HOUR SERIES is a monthly happy-hour gathering put on by the Spokane Mountaineers for the backcountry travel oriented folks to come together. Come early and stay late!

FLOW & WOLF

Have you scoped Sam Favret’s two complimentary ski videos? Both 4min 30sec full of ski goodness. From the press release… “WOLF is an unofficial sequel to FLOW, a film made during the pandemic in Chamonix. The yin and the yang. Less mechanical, and more poetic. Where FLOW praised a return to nature in its wild state, WOLF is the introspection of a skier searching for himself. It is abstract, like a visual concept, with a commitment to black and white.” – blackcrows

SKIN TRACK EXPERTISE

Setting a good skin track is easy-to-learn, hard-to-master. Why not take a few tips from a pro. The images in this write up are alone worth some contemplation as you think about your next adventure.

One last plug for a rad event the Spokane Mountaineers are facilitating…

The Backcountry Film Festival Thursday December 15th, 7:15pm at the Garland. The Backcountry Film Festival will be screening a collage of short documentaries and ski movies about the pursuit of objectives and ideals in the mountains, artistic vision, friendship, and how the snowsports community is adapting to a changing environment.

Fundraising from the film festival this year will support avalanche education and the installation of avalanche/terrain awareness information boards and potential beacon check stations in popular local backcountry areas around the Inland Northwest.

Much love BC Ski Friends,
