STOKE TOURING

WINTER 1.1 – TOURING / STOKE

Old-Man-Winter is finally making a return to the PNW after a stretch of high pressure. I snuck in a dawn patrol before work Friday morning and am stoked to get that back into my weekly schedule.

If you are in the INW of the PNW and utilize the uphill policy at Mt Spokane don’t forget to buy your sno-park pass. A small price to pay compared to some mountains. Some resorts are starting to charge for uphill, due to the massive influx of people they are now needing to manage.

I have too much good stuff to share in one post today, so I’ll try to up my game with another post on BC ski friends sooner than later.

BC SKI LINKS ROUND-UP…

THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

The sound and silence in this clip, mixed with the ridiculously good skiing and wonderful cinematography had me engrossed and stoked. Enjoy!

WHO ARE YOU MENTORING, OR WHO IS YOUR MENTOR?

Backcountry skiing is one tricky sport to get involved in due to all of the gear, hazards, education, etc. I know my own journey was stunted for a bit after getting my level 1 because I wasn’t able to find folks to go with. The culture has a funny vibe at times filled with secret places, small touring cirlces, and almost no where to find a buddy at the drop of a hat. This article was a good reminder to be on the look out for folks who are trying to get into this amazing sport. Be the mentor you wished you had!

ANOTHER MIND BENDING VIDEO

I almost saved this video for another post, but why wait! It is also ridiculously mesmerizing, and has me pondering the lunar calendar this season in hopes of turns half as good as these!

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS AND TUNE IN

Closing out with a blast of touring tips to hopefully keep you sharp. Are you up to speed with the dangers of early season snow? Have you got your beacon skills cued up for another season of safe riding? Do you know about Whiterisk for tuning up your snow safety knowledge? AMGA has a database of videos for tuning up skills, and I found this one interesting about setting a skin track insightful.

That’s what I have this time around, and I think something odd happened last time I posted a round-up so here you go in case you didn’t catch the last one.

Shreddingly yours BC Ski friends,

-Landon
