STOKE WINTER

WINTER 1.2

Winter took off here in the PNW during January, then got unseasonably warm, and then now seems to be back in the mountains… for at least a stretch. I’ve gotten in a pretty good mix of backcountry, lift assist, and family ski days this season. During the wintry January portion I was on-call for work and stuck in town waiting for the clock to click down so I could get back into the mountains. I made the most of 9ish inches that graced us down in town and went and skied at the local park with my one-year old and then rode another day on-campus where I work.

If you are here for the weekly round-up of links feel free to dip below, but I want to highlight this New York Times article which was a really good read. A novice skier takes an avy class and provides a critique and unique outsider perspective of the backcountry culture. I’m serious though, if you are into backcountry travel circle back and click the NYT article link. Ok, without further ado here’s the round-up!

BC SKI LINKS ROUND-UP…

QUITE THE ADVENTURE THEY COOKED UP!

The dudes and dudettes at Dynafit highlighted some exotic bc ski adventures. Most were to far away lands but this more close at hand Colter Route feature also seemed quite gritty. Bucket list maybe? Check out the trailer and if you have time the accompanying article is equally inspiring!

“DOWNHILL”

Have you caught the trailer for Will Farrell’s “ski/avalanch” film? If not it seems like one the bc ski community should turn out for. Do note it is a remake of an acclaimed french film and it has been argued, “why re-create, the first was so good!” Force Majeure is the original. Laughs abound in whatever language you check out.

T-RICE

For those that need more explanation… arguably the biggest snowboard name in the game who seems to consistently break the “rules” with his next new big film… has a new film. Check it!

FROM THE CREATIVE CATS AT DPS

Well gosh darn, there is some good creative stuff, cool cinematography, and legit skiing mixed all together in this flick. Thanks DPS!

Be safe out there amigos, check your avy reports, continue your education (one good online option), hang with good peeps, and crush some uphill/downhill.

xoxo
