WINTER 2.0

Please excuse the pandemic hiatus, but we are back and aiming to deliver some BC ski goodness again this winter. I had some technology troubles #2020 that I hopefully are all smoothed out (thanks to the help of a kind BC ski friend). Now I am ready to unload six months or so of links, videos, and articles I’ve been stock piling… don’t worry, not all at once. 😉

Are you dialing in your gear? Check the nuts and bolts of your bindings, tune-up your bases, and get ready to breathe in the mountain fresh air of a new season!

Are you figuring out what avalanche training or refreshing looks like? Will you find a local class or do something online? For those in the INW (inland northwest) there is a peer lead beacon practice happening Saturday, and here are some options for in-person classes.

Personally, I have been dialing in some Alien RS boots I got on clearance from across the pond… though they are seeming a wee tight (insert face-palm). I’ve also been doing some figuring for how to get my little dudes (5 & 7) out on the skin track with a DIY towee, countour clip-in bindings, and build your own skins. I will keep you posted once the systems are built.

I’m aiming to catch my first turns of the winter at 49N this weekend with the forecast looking like it will bring a generous delivery of white stuff this weekend. Hit me up if you are thinking the same and let’s rendezvous!

BC SKI LINKS ROUND-UP…

COVID AN UNENDING SEASON OF WEBINARS AND ZOOM MEETINGS…

…but if I had to choose a webinar to be in, it would likely be one with Avalanche Canada. Consider this some helpful schooling as the season kicks off.

CINEMATIC VIEWS

The shots in this vid have me intrigued. Pretty rad place to put on the bucket list. Who want’s to visit Andorra once COVID travel restrictions are lifted?

WE SKI ON NATIVE LANDS

The Black Lives Matter movement has had huge impacts on our country, and I won’t come close to tackling it all here on a backcountry skiing website. But I will mention that BLM helped me to cue into the fact I was for the most part only following white skier dudes on social media. Time to change that! This is a great short film, and I’ve started following Connor Ryan @sacredstoke on instagram as well.

Well, consider this post the “season opener”! Again, if you are in the INW and interested in rendezvousing in the parking lot of 49N for some socially distant ski touring (thank God it’s a COVID friendly sport), I’ll be there Saturday 6:30am-ish ready to shred. In my humble opinion, it’s one of the best mowed, and fairly grassy, slopes around (if you follow along the Silver Ridge Run) making it a great option for early season turns. The forecast has 8-12 falling today alone, the local weather blog is saying we have a complex storm, and the moisture isn’t stopping for the foreseeable future.

Let it stack up!
